HKFTU Women Affairs Committee has been fighting for the rights of working women over the years. As early as 1981, it strived to implement full-pay maternity leave and finally successfully extended the statutory maternity leave to 14 weeks.
In addition to the maternity leave, HKFTU has also paid sufficient attention to the issue of minimum wage. More precisely, the Rights and Benefits Committee of HKFTU, together with other parties, petitioned the Government Headquarters for a raise in the minimum wage by at least 4.8% to keep up with the inflation in the past two years.
Futher more, HKFTU believes that having two holiday systems in Hong Kong is highly unfair More than 1 million employees only enjoy 12 days of statutory holidays each year, 5 days fewer than that of other citizens. Therefore, the Rights and Benefits Committee of HKFTU urges the government to implement unification of the two systems promptly.
